Social Work at FREMAP is a fundamental pillar within the comprehensive care model that places the worker at the centre of the healthcare and rehabilitation process. Its mission is to accompany, guide and support people affected by a work-related accident or work-related illness, attending not only to their health needs, but also to the social, emotional, economic and work consequences arising from deteriorated health.

For FREMAP, social work includes all actions to help the patient within the social-health scope, ranging from the analysis of social factors that influence the health-disease situation, to the treatment of psychosocial distress, family guidance, advice on resources and collaboration in recovery and reincorporation into the workforce.

Social Work at FREMAP operates mainly in three main scopes of action:

1

Psychosocial care

2

Information and advice

3

Professional retraining and reincorporation into the workforce

Psychosocial care

Psychosocial care is one of the essential pillars of Social Work intervention at FREMAP. The approach is based on the evidence that a work-related accident or work-related illness can transform the worker's social, emotional and family dynamics.

For FREMAP, professional support is necessary to reduce the impact of psychosocial distress caused by deteriorated health.

The injured person may experience intense emotions: fear, uncertainty, frustration, loss of self-esteem, economic impact, family changes and temporary or permanent limitations. The Social Work team intervenes in the following:

  • Helping to express and manage emotional distress.
  • Promoting adaptation to the new health and work context.
  • Support during highly complex situations such as serious injuries, anticipation of permanent disability or dependency.
  • Offering psychosocial support to both the worker and their family.

This care includes the treatment of psychosocial distress resulting from the patient's deteriorated health.

The family is a key player in the recovery. Social Work:

  • Informs on and guides families in the healthcare process.
  • Helps understand the injury and its implications.
  • Support in critical moments.
  • It provides access to community or institutional resources when additional support is needed.

The area also plays a role in the following:

  • Major work-related accidents.
  • Traumatic situations.
  • Employee deaths, supporting families in their grief and in the required procedures.

Information and advice

The second key area of Social Work at FREMAP is information and advice, which is essential for the worker to be able to make decisions, know their rights and access available resources.

The Social Work team informs and supports managing the following:

  • Procedures and benefits related to temporary or permanent disability.
  • Benefit to care for minors with a serious disease.

It also informs companies and trade unions about available aid.

Depending on the worker's situation, the following information is provided:

  • Municipal or regional social services.
  • Healthcare resources, residences, day centres, adapted homes.
  • Dependency services.
  • Patient associations.

This approach allows creating a solid support network suited to the worker's needs.

Professionals assist in carrying out complex procedures or those requiring technical support, such as:

  • Health documentation.
  • Disability certificates.
  • Dependency assessments.
  • Workplace adaptations.

Professional retraining and reintegration into the workforce

This is the most characteristic and differentiating area of Social Work at FREMAP, since its intervention not only seeks personal recovery, but also the reconstruction of the life project after an accident or illness.

One of Social Work's goals is facilitating the victim's return to their usual job or to another activity according to their limits, promoting vocational training.

Professional Retraining at FREMAP is a programme for workers who, due to the sequelae from an accident, are unable to perform their usual job.

The programme offers:

  • Specific professional training.
  • Practical workshops.
  • Psychosocial support.
  • Labour intermediation.

The goal of retraining is to support the person in accessing a work activity suited to their abilities, contributing to their personal autonomy and their full participation in society.

Social Work at FREMAP actively participates in the entire process:

  • Detection of cases that are suitable for retraining.
  • Prepares the Social Report, a key document for the Special Benefits Committee.
  • Emotional support to the worker during training.
  • It acts as a link between centres, trainers and health officials.
  • It facilitates the transition to a new profession.

Reintegration into the workforce can occur in two ways:

  • Reincorporation into the usual position (when the sequelae allow it).
  • Incorporation into a new position or profession, after a retraining process.

Through the Special Benefits Committee, the following can be financed:

  • Adaptation of vehicles.
  • Adaptation of the home.
  • Prostheses and technical aids.
  • Additional training.

FREMAP approves numerous aid programmes aimed at facilitating daily life and access to employment
