FREMAP held an in-person meeting at its headquarters in Majadahonda with the participants of the Course for Carers of People with Severe Disabilities, a training initiative developed over the last nine months in virtual format and framed within the Special Benefits Commission.
The session provided a unique opportunity for the participants to meet in person after a long period of shared training, creating an environment of engagement, exchange and mutual recognition. A particularly meaningful gathering, in which learning went beyond the technical field to become an experience of emotional support and personal growth.
The course addressed content focused on self-care and improving the care of people in situations of high dependency, strengthening not only caregiving skills but also the wellbeing of the carers themselves. As the participants themselves expressed, this training helped to highlight their role and strengthen their self-esteem, promoting a more holistic view of care.
During the meeting, participants shared their personal experiences, fostering a collective support environment that highlighted the importance of building networks among carers. The shared experiences highlighted the positive impact of this type of initiative, especially in terms of support and the reduction of feelings of loneliness.
The session also included the participation of representatives from the Special Benefits Commission, as well as collaboration with the New Health Foundation, an organisation that contributed to the delivery of the course, reinforcing the programme’s specialised and human-centred approach.
This meeting made it possible to recognise the essential work carried out by carers in their day-to-day lives, as well as the role of Social Work in supporting individuals and their families in situations of particular vulnerability.
With initiatives like this, FREMAP reaffirms its commitment to comprehensive, people-centred support aimed at improving quality of life, promoting programmes that combine training, emotional support and community building.
