The FREMAP Health Observatory has published the monthly report on the evolution of temporary disability (TD) for the period between January and August 2026. This analysis offers an updated view of the main indicators related to sick leave and its behavior by contingencies and diagnostic groups. The publication is part of FREMAP's commitment to disseminating specialized information that contributes to the knowledge of occupational health and temporary disability.

Average rate

Up to August 2026, the following were recorded 31.47 sick leaves per 100 workerswhich represents a variation of -5.38% compared to the same period in 2025.

The incidence of common contingencies It was located in 29.09 job losses per 100 workerswhile the professional contingencies registered 2.38 sick leaves per 100 workers.

Temporary disability index

The total IT index reached 6.07 days of sick leave for every 100 days of contributions until August 2026. In the case of common contingencies, the index stood at 5.63, while the index corresponding to occupational contingencies was 0.44.

Diagnostic groups

The diagnostic group with the highest number of initiated absences was the musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), which represented the 22.28% of the total number of processes registered in the analyzed period. Next, the pathologies related to the general discomfort and symptoms, with a 12.67% of the total number of casualties.

Regarding the accumulated sick days, musculoskeletal disorders concentrated the 34.38% of the total number of days of temporary incapacity recorded. They were followed by mental and behavioral disorders (MBD), which represented the 17.49% of the days off.

Sample analyzed

The study was conducted on a sample of 1,045,229 temporary disability processes, which generated 49,004,479 days of sick leave between January and August 2026.

The population analyzed includes a protected group of average size:

· 4,196,740 workers in professional contingency.

· 3,250,507 workers in common contingency.
